Sugilite is a rare, purple to deep purple mineral found in the manganese mines of South Africa. Its color ranges from soft lavender to intense violet, sometimes with black, gray, or pink patterns. Discovered in 1944 by Japanese geologist Ken-ichi Sugi, it is also known as luvulite or lavulite.
