The sapphire is a precious gemstone with a rich history. The stone comes from Sri Lanka and has been known since ancient times. The sapphire was mentioned in an ancient Sanskrit poem from the year 400 BC, and has been mined in the quarries of Sri Lanka since the 5th century BC. Even then, the sapphire was considered a symbol of royal power and wealth, and was often used in jewelry and crowns worn by kings and queens.

In the Middle Ages, the sapphire also became known in Europe, where the stone quickly became a popular jewelry among the wealthy elite.
