Ethiopian opal pendant
About our pendants
Thanks to the delicate eyelet, it almost looks as if you are wearing just a stone on a necklace.
We pick our stones ourselves at gemstone fairs. Among thousands of stones, we choose the ones that stand out: in shape, in quality, in an unexpected detail. In our atelier in Breda we drill a small, subtle hole and set the eyelet by hand. Nothing else is needed. The stone itself is the jewel.
Meaning of Ethiopian opal
Ethiopian opal, native to the Welo region of Ethiopia, is known for its bright body colors and vibrant plays of color. Unlike many traditional opals, Ethiopian opal often has a translucent to translucent base, making the multicolored flashes of green, blue, red and orange even more striking. The unique hydrophane property of this opal means it can absorb water, which can temporarily change its color and transparency.
Meaning
Protection, Purification of the soul & Dragon energy
Ethiopian Opal helps you realize your highest purpose on earth and returns you to the ethereal blueprint of your true self. It acts as a protective shield against negative energies and increases your sensitivity to the energy of crystals, people and the earth.
Ethiopian Opal helps you face your deepest fears and transform them into your greatest gifts. It supports weight loss by addressing underlying psychological causes, such as vulnerability or deep anger, and helps you release deeper layers of repressed emotions, fear and trauma, including those from past lives. This crystal is considered a powerful tool for exploring past lives, with its fiery inclusions removing old karma, de-energizing and making room for new patterns and growth.
Ethiopian Opal is an emotional enhancer that strengthens the will to live. It activates the base, sacral and crown chakras and creates a strong, stable energy flow. It makes you creative and makes your latent creative gifts visible. This crystal helps you communicate better, both in normal communication and in paranormal communication skills. It helps you change your way of thinking and supports you in making decisions.
Did you know...
... Ethiopian opal is known as the "fire of the desert"? This is because the gemstone is formed in volcanic rocks and its unique patterns and colors are formed by the interaction between lava and water.

About Mónos
Mónos belongs to Clara and Dion. It started in 2021, when Dion was looking for a pendant like this himself and couldn't find one anywhere: a free-form stone, of beautiful quality, with a finish that didn't get in the way of the stone. So he started making them himself. Since 2024 we do it together.
The name Mónos comes from the Greek mono, one. Because of every stone, in this exact shape and colour, there is only one.

Frequently asked questions
Are these real gemstones?
Yes! 🌿
Our collection contains only real gemstones and crystals. Preferably as unique as possible and of high quality: gemstones you don't come across every day.
What is 'gold filled'?
Gold filled is often confused with gold plated, but they really are two different things. Gold plated is that thin layer of gold that quickly discolours, and almost everyone has had a disappointing experience with it.
Gold filled is something completely different: a thick layer of 14 karat gold rolled onto the base metal, with at least 5% real gold.
It hardly discolours, lasts for years of daily wear and is nickel-free. A very durable and affordable alternative to 14 karat gold.
Is your jewellery really handmade?
Absolutely! ❤️
Every piece is handmade with lots of care and love. This is what happens before a piece appears on our website:
- The hunt: We search gemstone fairs to select the most beautiful stones, one by one, on quality and shape.
- Making: Then we carefully drill a hole in each stone with a diamond drill and attach an eyelet. This lets you wear your piece the way you like: on a necklace or as an earring.
- Photography: And the best part? Every piece is unique! We show each piece with its own photo on our website, so you can choose your perfect shape yourself. There is only one of every stone, so you are guaranteed to hold something truly unique ❤️
How big is a piece?
Every piece has two photos. In the second photo you'll see my hand behind the piece, so you can judge the size. Note: these are men's hands, so maybe a bit bigger than the average reader's, haha :)
And if you really want to know exactly: my fingers are about 1.7 cm thick. Never thought I'd measure that, but maybe it helps, haha.
Is gift wrapping available?
Yes, it's always included! We wrap every order as a gift ❤️
Can the eyelet of a piece be changed?
Unfortunately not. The eyelets of our pieces are firmly glued and can't be swapped. Hopefully you'll find another gemstone or shape that speaks to you ❤️
